The SwimEasy Maximum Performance Solar Pool Heating System is a DIY kit from Solar Pool Supply. You mount the panels on your roof or a rack, plumb them into the pool’s existing pump and filter, and the sun warms the water as it circulates.

On Amazon it’s sold as the “Highest Performing Design” DIY Solar Pool Heater Kit. Here’s how it works, how to size it, and what the kit doesn’t cover.

How It Works

Your pool pump pushes water up to the panels, the black absorber tubes soak up heat, and the warm water flows back into the pool. No gas or extra electricity is needed beyond the pump you already run.

SwimEasy’s design change is the header. It’s molded in one piece around the absorber tubes, so there are no joints inside the manifold to restrict flow or leak over time.

Typical solar pool heating adds roughly 5–10°F to pool temperature when the system is sized well. That’s a general industry range, not a SwimEasy test result, and your result depends on sun, wind, and whether you use a cover.

How to Size It

Solar pool heaters are sized by your pool’s surface area, not its gallons. Solar Pool Supply’s own guide:

Goal Panel Area vs Pool Surface
Summer boost About 50%
Extend the season a few weeks 60–80%
Swim spring through fall 85–100%

Example: a 15 x 30 ft pool has 450 sq ft of surface. A summer boost needs about 225 sq ft, so six 4×10 panels (240 sq ft) fit. Swimming spring through fall would take 10 panels or more.

The 4-panel, 4×10 kit we link below covers 160 sq ft. That suits a pool of about 320 sq ft (roughly 16 x 20 ft) for summer use. The Amazon listing lets you pick other panel counts and sizes.

What the Kit Includes (and What It Doesn’t)

Each panel comes with mounting brackets, strap brackets, hose clamps and connector hoses. Each system gets connectors, an end cap, a vacuum relief valve, drain parts and 100 ft of hold-down strapping.

Solar Pool Supply sells a valve kit separately for tying the system into your pump and filter. You’ll need it for a new install, but not if you’re replacing old panels.

Also plan for PVC pipe to run from the equipment pad to the roof and back. That length depends on your layout, so price it out before you order.

The one-piece header is the standout. Header-to-tube joints are where many panels start leaking after a few seasons, and this design removes them. It’s backed by NSF and SRCC certification, US manufacturing and a 4.7-star rating from 69 reviews on Amazon at the time of writing.

The catch is the job itself. Roof mounting means drilling into rafters, strapping panels for wind, and plumbing up to the roof. Your pump also has to push water that high. Handy owners can do it with the manual and Solar Pool Supply’s install support, but it’s a weekend project, not a plug-and-play add-on.

Pros Cons
One-piece header removes common leak points Valve kit sold separately for new installs
NSF and SRCC certified, made in the USA Roof install involves drilling and strapping
Free heat with no running fuel cost Only heats when the sun is out
Many sizes from 64 to 480 sq ft PVC runs to the roof not included

Best for: Inground pool owners with a sunny roof or yard who are comfortable with a DIY plumbing job.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I install the SwimEasy kit myself?

Yes. It’s sold as a DIY kit with a step-by-step manual and installer support. Expect drilling, strapping and PVC plumbing.

Should I choose the 1.5-inch or 2-inch header?

Match the plumbing and flow of your system. Larger arrays and pools with 2-inch plumbing usually suit the 2-inch header. Ask Solar Pool Supply if you’re unsure.

Does it work on above-ground pools?

It can, but your pump must handle the extra plumbing and lift. Smaller above-ground pools are usually better served by a ground-level collector.

What happens in freezing weather?

The kit includes a vacuum relief valve and drain parts so the panels can empty. In freezing climates, drain the system before winter.

How long does it last?

Solar Pool Supply claims a 15–20 year life and backs the panels with a 10-year limited warranty.

Final Verdict

The SwimEasy DIY kit is a well-built, certified solar pool heater with a header design that targets the most common failure point in cheaper panels. Size it to at least half your pool’s surface area, budget for the valve kit and PVC runs, and a cover will help you keep the heat it adds.
